The not so wonderful scent of synthetic dyes...
Did You Know? Little tidbit fact that I just had to throw in there :)
*One acre of hemp (Grown in a single season) yields as much paper as up to 4 acres of trees.
That Isnt Apples That You Smell
95% of chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds taken from petroleum.
These include benzene derivatives, aldenydes and many other toxins and sensitizers. These are capable of causing cancer, birth defects, as well as central nevous system disorders.
The toxins have been found in everything, from mother's milk to fish from the ocean. Many countries have banned synthetic fragrance chemicals because they are causing chronic migraines, ashtma, cancer and immune and nerve dysfunction that can affect the brain.
Your health may be affected, your reaction to these products is not an allergy. The chemicals are toxic and its becoming much more common for people to react to them and even be permanently damaged by them. Many times , in fact, usually the outcome is blamed on something else.
The scent that you smell in laundry detergent, deordorant, hair gels and perfume is only a small part of the ingredients in "Fragrance". Synthetic adhesives, glues, preservatives and spreading agents make up the rest.
These chemicals that make a smell stick to your clothes, they will also stick to your body, lungs and brain, or breast tissue. Once you have inhaled or applied the toxins.
To stay healthy and safe, use only natural and organic products for your skin, hair and clothes. Stay away from chemical air fresheners, deodorizers, and any chemical perfumes.

Ginger Tea to the Rescue
I have become a large fan of David Wolfe on facebook, I bet many of you are as well. Maybe you also get his newsletter. This is a recipe I found on one of his sharings. He is huge into self- healing and using nature to cure things rather than prescription drugs and other modern and accepted practices. He has some wonderful ideas to ensure a healthy lifestyle with things that I quite enjoy making right in the kitchen. They are usually very simple and easy to do.
In addition to having a wonderful taste, Ginger is an anti-inflammatory, anti-parasitic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial. Not to shabby for not needing a prescription, eh? Also a great remedy for colds and sinus problems, stomachaches, indigestion and nausea.
Ginger Tea Recipe

*2 teaspoons freshly grated ginger

The Trek South
The ponies and I made our annual trip south this past monday. Very grateful for one more very uneventful trip in the books. Healthy truck & healthy horses. Nothing is more interesting than traveling the entire east coast and noticing the little changes in culture each time you stop. Airports are right up there as well.
Going south for the winter is an obvious excitement for the horses and for the weather, but its also really great for my Arbonne business. I mostly talk to the internet about the company and all the topics that I am interested in. However, moving to a completely different place gives me a brand new group of people to share the possibilities with. Its also been fun to learn the different needs for the things that I sell. The weather is much drier here than it is at home. That sets us up for a whole new set of skincare needs.
I'm hoping for a bit milder winter this year weather-wise. The last two have been just a little bit too cold. I'm hoping to get going pretty quickly with metro to start the competition season. We'll start with a Training at Full Gallop in late January, followed by Prelim at Sporting Days and Pinetop. Then the possibility of a 1* or Intermediate later on. Better sell lots of Arbonne to fund the process!

New FDA approval of a genetically modified salmon
As I'm sure you all know by now, the FDA has approved a genetically modified salmon, legally able to be produced for consumption in the U.S. There seems to be a lot of
dissatisfaction regarding the adequacy and ethical standards of the FDA; I think that is a topic I would like to get to know a lot better.
As far as this incident goes, I just cannot support it. Just when it seems like the attention and research is starting to be sent in this direction, a setback like this occurs.
I take online courses through CourseRA. In the discussion forums for a recent Public Policy course, a professor responded to my concerns of GMO foods with the fact that because it cuts costs, it can be used to help reduce world hunger. While I completely understand that, I still believe that we should go about it a different way. Not labeling the difference between the products is something I just can't get past.
There are things that lead us to believe that genetically modified organisms in our food and health products is not beneficial to us, and is in fact harmful. Lab animals given GMO foods in the research that has been done, those animals many times cannot reproduce. Thorough enough studies have not been done to determine whether it is a healthy move or not. If it isn't, is there a healthier option with similar economical benefits that we could be taking instead??
The FDA claims that the GMO salmon is as healthy to eat as regular salmon. It may be worth looking into, to see if it may be a worthy alternative, but as of now there are not enough facts to support this kind of claim. The public support is not behind it either. Millions are against it, more so in European countries than in the US. Petitions float over the internet, some stores, such as Cosco are refusing to sell the product.
This does not mean that it won't sell, however. The FDA leaves the labeling up to the companies that sell the fish. It doesn't require that the animal be labeled to state that it was genetically altered and human made. It is beyond me how stores would refuse to sell a GMO salmon when it may be a mystery to all which is which.
I would hate to boycott all salmon, because there are fishermen out there who do an honorable job and are looking to produce food that is healthy for their customers. They would feed it to their own children.
The goal seems to be to have the altered salmon fit in with the already existing market, but be faster, cheaper and easier to produce at a higher rate. The GMO salmon will grow to market size in 16-18 months, rather than the natural 3 years.
What do you think about this? Anyone more educated on the topic than I? Any information is greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Lindsey

Our products and philosophy on lifestyle are based on an approach to holistic well-being. We embrace knowledge and encourage you to explore these articles to learn more about a variety of nutrition, health and wellness topics.
Arbonne carefully considers the latest expert news and information on health and wellness when developing new products and refining out ingredient policy.
Ingredient Policy
Transparency and honesty. They are the hallmarks of our product integrity. At Arbonne we are continuously improving and evaluating our ingredient policy so we can develop the most thoughtfully designed, innovative, safest products. And were always striving to do better. Each and every single day.
Heading to the local drugstore to buy shampoo usually results in a lot of label reading. Its encouraging that more often now I am coming across people in a CVS who are doing the same. They're actually checking out what is in the product they are about to buy and see if it effects their health in any adverse ways. Sounds like a lot of work to buy a bottle of body wash that only costs a few dollars.

Green Coffee Beans – What You Need to Know
Green coffee beans are coffee beans
that have not yet been roasted. These contain a higher amount of the naturally
occurring phytochemical, chlorogenic acid, which was found to help support
weight maintenance because it can help reduce the amount of glucose absorbed in
the small intestine. The grade of green coffee bean extract used in in Arbonne Evolution™ ThermoBooster was clinically tested in human studies and shown to support
healthy weight management.

Healthy Skin Tips..dry skin, acne and dark circles
**Treat Acne Prone Skin with Care- Excessive scrubbing or washing can irritate your skin and actually make acne worse. So can using astringents and facial scrubs. Instead, wash problem areas with a gentle cleanser. To dry excess oil, try something that contains salicylic acid.
**dark circles under eyes?? Check your nose.
Extra ZZZ's may not cure those dark circles under your eyes. One common cause is nasal congestion. When your nose gets congested, veins that usually drain from your eyes into your nose become widened and darker. Rinsing your sinuses with a saltwater solution (mix 1/4 teaspoon sea salt with 2 cups warm water)
**Dry Skin
Ordinarily, dry skin isnt serious, but it can be uncomfortable and unsightly, creating fine lines and wrinkles. Serious dry skin conditions- an inherited group of disorders called ichthyosis- can be sometimes disfiguring. Fortunately, environmental factors that can be at least partially controlled cause most dry skin. These factors include hot or cold weather, low humidity and soaking in hot water. Chronic or severe dry skin problems may require evaluation by a doctor who specializes in skin (dermatologist) But first you can do a lot on your own to improve your skin, including using moisturizers and avoiding harsh, drying soaps.

Arbonne Essentials for Daily Health
The ideal diet to fuel and balance the body's nutritional needs should consist of a variety of fruits and vegetables, lean protein sources, whole grains, low fat dairy or plant based calcium sources, along with heart healthy fats like those found in coldwater, wild fish, almonds, or extra-virgin olive oil. According to the USDA, an ideal healthy plate or meal should look like this :
1/2 fruits and vegetables
1/4 grains, at least half of the grains should be whole
1/4 lean protein from plant or animal sources
3 cups or servings of nonfat, low fat dairy or plant based calcium sources
***Problems:
*Modern Farming Practices- Today's farming techniques yield large fast-growing plants that may often lack key micronutrients found in more traditionally raised crops
*Aging- as we age, its common for our bodies to have to work harder to digest and absorb key nutrients as a result of insufficient stomach acid or low amounts of beneficial microorganisms in our digestive tracts.
*Frequent Dieting- a reduced-calorie diet often makes it more challenging to get all of the necessary nutrition
*Busy Lives- Balancing priorities can lead to time management challenges that make it much harder to consistently plan, shop for and prepare balanced, full meals. Even well-balanced diets may not include a broad enough range of fruits and vegetables to ensure that we are getting all the vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients we need.
